KCTA awards scholarships to eight Center students

In the end, they just couldn’t make a cut.
The Kansas City Transportation Association invited Operation Breakthrough students to apply for their 2007 college scholarships. They planned to give two $500 awards. Eight of our students applied.

“Reading the kids’ essays, I remember thinking, ‘Boy, I’m glad I don’t have to narrow this down to two,” says Jennifer Heinemann, associate development director.

The day KCTA’s board met to review the applications, KCTA President David LaMothe sent word that all eight students would receive $500.

“We are excited about the opportunity to help these students,” David says.

The winners are: Aaron Randle, Howard University; William Hollaway, Lincoln University; Lavester Beard, Northwest Missouri State University; and Katina Magnussen, Enrica Pierce-Williams, Jaleisa Pierce-Williams, Jasmine Pierce-Williams and Keira Simpson, all of Penn Valley Community College.

In addition to the scholarships, KCTA also raised $3,200 raised for the Center’s children at their annual holiday luncheon.

“This group has made such a strong commitment to the children,” Jennifer says. “From the babies to the college kids – KCTA supports them all!”
